FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Standards, warranty, where the intelligence sits, regulation: the answers we give most often, with links to the detail.

Is IoTiatis a separate company from Trustiatis?

No. IoTiatis is the connected-devices and embedded-AI brand of Trustiatis LLC, founded in March 2013 in Quebec. The contractual framework, warranty and general terms are the group's: the contracting legal entity is the same.

Are your products certified?

We design against a normative framework that we document publicly — IoT architecture (ISO/IEC 30141, 21823), radio and CE marking (RED Directive 2014/53/EU, ETSI EN 300 and EN 301 489 series), cybersecurity (ETSI EN 303 645, ISO/IEC 27001), electrical safety (EN 62368-1, IEC 60529). Applying a standard and holding a certification are two different things: we state the standards applied and provide the matching technical file on request.

Should the intelligence sit on the sensor, the gateway or the cloud?

All three tiers have a distinct role. On the sensor: simple anomaly detection, signal classification, conditional wake-up. On the gateway: multi-sensor aggregation, vision, heavier models. In the cloud: training, fleet analysis, dashboards. The deciding criterion is the constraint — power, latency, confidentiality — not fashion.

What does the Cyber Resilience Act change for a device manufacturer?

It adds lifecycle cybersecurity obligations on top of the cybersecurity already required by the RED Directive since 2025. Our dedicated article covers it in detail and cites the applicable texts.

Is a predictive maintenance project realistic for a small industrial company?

It is when three conditions hold: a failure whose cost is known, a physical quantity genuinely correlated with that failure, and enough history to learn from. Without all three, the project produces curves but no decision — the most common failure mode, detailed in our article.

What do you actually deploy?

Three families: industry (production sensors, predictive maintenance), smart buildings (Building Automation System, access control) and custom projects (embedded electronics, edge AI). More than 180 deployments have been carried out since 2013.

What does the warranty cover, and what does it not?

Every deployed device is covered against manufacturing defects for the period stated in its delivery documentation; field-replaceable units are swapped, and firmware issues are patched remotely when the device is connected. Excluded: physical damage from use outside the specified operating conditions, and third-party firmware modifications.

How does device data reach the rest of the information system?

Through Trustigateway, the group's gateway: it connects devices deployed by IoTiatis to the information system and, where relevant, to the customer's AI agents, so field data triggers action instead of sitting in a dashboard.

Is isolating the industrial network enough to secure it?

No. The air gap is rarely a verified assumption once supervision or remote maintenance is needed. The approach we apply is the zones-and-conduits segmentation described by the IEC 62443 series, covered in our OT security article.

What does the EU buildings energy performance directive require?

It sets automation and supervision requirements for certain non-residential buildings, on its own timetable. Our dedicated article details what it implies for building management systems and instrumentation.
